What do you say to a child ..

Question

When your child asks, "where's my dad at?" or questions like that ... what would you say back . Realistically, in the situation where the father is a POS and doesn't want to be apart of that child's life .. what do you say back?

Answer

I've been that child. It's so hard, because there is no right answer. It'll hurt no matter what you say. 
Basically. Tell the truth. They're going to find out anyways, if they don't already know. My dad walked away when I was 8, and I think my mom explained it the best:
"Your daddy loves you, and I know you love him. But he's making some bad life choices, and that means he isn't safe or good for you to be around. But even though hes not here, mommy loves you very much and she's here for you."

Answer

Tell the child the truth, but do not bash or poison the child of his/her father. Later in life the child will realize who and what his/her is and questions for the father that he will need to answer.
