Been thinking lately

I've realized a long time ago that my cycle is super irregular and always has been since i got my first one at 13. Ive always wondered why and my mom believes is a hormone imbalance because she has it too (well more specifically she has PCOS) so i was just wondering if it was genetic? I plan on going to my doctor soon but i just wanna know if that could be what it is
