Why did you stop before goal

Question

I see a lot of posts/comments about wanting to breastfeed longer but stopping (wanted to go a year, stopped at 7mo)
I'm not judging I just genuinely want to know why.

I have PPD, PPA, and PTSD. My daughter spent 10 days in the NICU due to preterm birth... which meant establishing my supply with a breast pump in between visiting her every 3 hours and trying to get some sleep. It was mentally and physically exhausting. They didn't even let me try to latch her until she was a week old and had already been on formula for a week. At 4 weeks, she still couldn't latch. Pumping/breastfeeding now causes major anxiety for me... and I decided (while working with my doc) that it would be better to stop to help me bond and take better care of my daughter.

I couldn't make enough milk.  I had/have severely asymmetrical tubular breast with insufficient glandular tissue.  I was hopeful that I would be able to breastfeed, but only could pump 5-15mL a session after four weeks.  I was supplementing with formula via SNS at the breast and pumping.  My baby just turned one month yesterday and I decided to stop.  The 20-30mL of breastmilk he was getting a day wasn't worth all the stress and work anymore.  I feel really guilty and sad that I wasn't able to breastfeed.

I don't want to stop but I could see painful clogged ducts recurring or mastasis doing it.  But right now it's also hard to keep up at work and pump.

It was too exhausting for me. Either feed or pump every 3 hours even at night so even if my baby slept all night I'd still be up pumping otherwise I'd wake up in the worse pain. I feel like my whole life revolved around breastfeeding and it was affecting me mentally so I decided to stop.

I almost stopped at 9 months, I had thrush on my nipples. It was so painful to nurse and one nipple cracked and bled. After pumping and treating the thrush for a few days it's better now and am back to nursing! But I did decide to slowly wean now. Hopefully by one year we will be done nursing, I miss normal size boobies :P

Suppy dwindled and baby got server acid reflux so we were advised to switch to formula.
