I keep my mouth shut, take a walk or just lock myself up while talking to the mirror to figure out what went wrong and how to address it without hurting no one.

I know this isn't very beneficial, but normally when I'm so mad/frustrated, I end up crying.  (Not full blown water works, just a few tears)

The best thing to do is take a few minutes to try to calm yourself down. Come back when you feel you can keep composure.

I agree with writing down your thoughts. Even if you don't have a pen and paper handy, you can always type it down in your notes on your phone. I find this very helpful. It allows you to calm down, get all your thoughts out and then revisit these thoughts for a better understanding. Then when you actually talk to you SO you'll be less mad, make more sense and the conversation will be more productive.
