Spotting?

I've literally never had sporting in my life.  I just finished my menstural cycle the 16 and I've been spotting for abt 4-5 days now. Not all day just every few times I go pee. Sometimes it's bright red and sometimes It's like a light brown discharge almost. I've read it could be a sign of ovulation or early pregnancy ? Any advice. I took a test a couple days ago and it was negative.
