13 weeks pregnant and hooked to an IV port for IV antibiotics
A couple weeks ago I was treated for a UTI. I am chronic with bladder infections/uti's. So I go back to my ob/gyn to test my urine to make sure the infection cleared. Well the initial infection was gone, but a new bad bacteria called pseudomonas was present. I received a call from an infectious disease doctor informing me of all this and how the only way to treat it being pregnant is with IV antibiotics. I find myself at the hospital the next day laying in an operating room being numbed in the arm having an IV port that is 36 cm long inserted through the arm that ends right above my heart. Although that process was Shockingly short, the rest was not. Going to short stay getting the first round of medicine waiting around and then having to rush home after nearly 6 hours of being bounced around in the hospital just to pack up my dog and leave for a viewing on our home that is for sale. A nurse had to come to my home the next day to teach myself my and my husband how to administer the IV medications. And again today to draw blood. It's been so much, and as if pregnancy isn't nerve wracking enough I am wearing an IV port inside my body for 7 days. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen while pregnant? Or know someone who has? I am drained, and not feeling great, and pregnant on top of it all. It's just so scary being preg!
