Terrible cigarette smell entering my apartment?

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and I'm freaking out because there is a terrible cigarette smell that comes once in awhile every night.

I don't know if it is because the previous tenant use to smoke. But that was years ago, I doubt that smell would be coming now.

Or is it coming through the heater vent from someone else's apartment. If that even is possible, because it's not one in the ceiling it's a big ass heater on the floor.

What can I do to eliminate this horrible smell?

Sounds like it's from another apartment.  If it's not allowed inside the building I'd tell your land lord and see if they can stop it. You should also change the AC filter regularly. Maybe get a HEPA filter. Clean the carpets if it's been a while.

Bleck. Someone smokes outside of our house (we live in a row home) and every time they light one up i can smell it instantly. Our windows are shut and i can still smell it, and our room is on the third story!  Its so gross. I have to cover my face and basically suffocate myself so i dont breathe in those toxins.

My SO thought I was crazy when I told him I could smell cigarette smoke through the walls. Only every once in a while and very randomly, mostly in the middle of the night. I still to this day don't know where it was coming from. I haven't smelled it since I was pregnant and my LO is 13weeks.
