Can I file my own taxes if I'm dependent?

I still live at home but I work and pay my own tuition, phone bill, and transporation fees. If I file my own taxes as dependent, does it affect anything on my parents' tax form? I asked my dad if I can file independent and he said no.

File as a dependent, and it will not affect your parents return. If they file you as dependent and you file independent the government will kick yours back and you will have to correct it.

If you file your own they can't have you as a dependent on theirs, THAT will cause YOU to owe the IRS been there it sucks luckily it was only $300

You can, you just can't claim your personal exemption because your parents still claim you. 
I've done it for the past five years and am currently studying financial planning which has a heavy study load in tax.

I file my taxes & my mom still claims me. On your tax forms, it'll ask you if someone claims you as a dependent & you just say yes. My mom gets a lot back since technically she provides 50% of my support but I do work & pay most of my bills. You'll most likely get all or most of your money back if someone claims you.

I'm not sure what necessarily happens. But I had a rough patch with my guardians and I didn't want to give them my W2 since I knew I would never see that money. 
I filed taxes and it asked me if someone could claim me as a dependent, I said yes and they took about $300. Which was, in my opinion, better than giving my guardians all my money.
