I am one month postpartum and had a fist sized clot with heavy bleeding. I know to be on alert for clots bigger than golf balls so this really freaked me out plus I soaked a pad in a few minutes. This clot was huge and deep red, it looked like a heart to me. It didnt hurt coming out just felt some pressure. Since I was discharged I had pretty light bleeding so this made me panic. Called doctor and after they asked me all their questions she confirmed it should be fine. Said I had probably clotted more than I should have early on and got backed up or had lots of lining that was finally ready to dislodge all at once instead of over time. Since I wasn't continuing to bleed heavy ( after I passed the clot I went back to normal light flow) I didn't need to go to er. I felt much better after talking to her and confirming I didn't have any other symptoms that normally mean a dangerous problem. Just wanted to post this in case anyone experiences this later in their postpartum journey. Im still having low flow bleedinv and havent had any other issues. By the way the other symptoms she asked about were fever, chills dizziness, light headed, claminess, stomach pain, major cramping, swelling in face hands legs or face, soaking a pad within 5-15 minutes and pooping through vagina... yes I guess that can happen in extreme cases. It's still always best to ask the doctor or go to er to be safe.
