Reputable Tattooers?

How do I find a good tattoo artist. Id like to find someone a little better than who did my first two tattoos. But the places around me dont have websites. I live in Michigan so would you recommend a trip to Grand rapids or Chicago? Would a big city be better than my tiny city? Do i go in and ask them? The last one i went off of a tattoo he gave my cousin. Any advice?

I would go in and ask to look at their portfolios. That way you can get an idea of what their art looks like.

In my city, I just know based in the reputation of the tattoo shop that the artists are reputable and have good reputations. It's mostly just hearsay for tattoo artists and you have to go based on that and what their previous work looks like

Your choices will be higher in a big city but prices will also be higher. Shop around for what you want done and find an artist who has a portfolio that you like. Someone whose style matches what you're looking for.
