same name as cousins child?

My husband and I are both very picky with boys names. The only one we both like is Oliver (which is my absolute favorite!) My cousin, who I never see and I am not close with, already named his son Oliver 😩 The only time we ever see them would be at a family members wedding if we both happen to be attending. Would it be a huge no-no if we went ahead and used this name that we both really like?

I say go for it! If it's a name you love then don't hesitate. My husband's family doesn't like the name we chose but I don't care, we love it and that's all that matters. If all you are going to see the other Oliver is maybe at a wedding once in a while, then no big deal at all. If it was a close cousin and the kids would grow up together than maybe that would be a different story, but a distant cousin, I wouldn't even second guess using the name.

My aunts name is Jessica (moms sister) and she is only a few months older then i am. 
There is 3 different Adrians in our family

If that's the name you love most then use it! You could be extra polite and ring your cousin first and explain it's a name you really want - he'll probably just congratulate you on your good taste in names 😁

I wouldn't advise it. My sister named her daughter Audrey, and the baby's father's sister named her daughter (who was born shortly after my neice) Aubrey. Even a name that wasn't exactly the same but extremely similar causes a lot of tension in the family and they don't even see each other often.

I have cousins that have the exact same name Stephanie Lynn- same last name too! I thought that was a little odd... same firstname- not a big deal especially if you aren't close!

I have 2 cousins that both named their sons Aiden. I also have 2 other cousins that named their sons Callen and Kellan, not the same name but very similar. It doesn't seem like it's a problem for our family.  I personally would try to find a different name but in the end all that matters is that you're happy with the name no matter who is named what. If you love the name, use it. If it bothers you, maybe reach out to your cousin a talk about it.
