IUI Should I even bother?

Question

Has anyone gotten bfp after first IUI? If so, what were the percentages the dr gave you as far as chance of success? DH and I are considering IUI but it is not covered by our insurance and we really can only afford to try one time. I'm on the fence about even doing that due to the low likelihood of success the dr gave us and I'm looking for a success story to make me feel better about it...

My husband and I have tried for 6+ years. We got pregnant on our own end of 2013 and miscarried 💔. We went back to trying right away as soon as the Dr okayd it. Still no luck and all this time we were just being seen by a regular obgyn. We did many months of clomid and progesterone with no luck. Finally in the fall of 2016 he told us there was nothing else he could do for us and he wanted to refer us to a fertility specialist. We were extremely nervous and like you my insurance didn't cover and we weren't sure how we would pay for it all but we would figure it out. We went for our initial appointment 12/16/16, I was told I have endometriosis which could have been a lot of the problem all this time but he thought we could get around it. As soon as I started we started our first round I did back to back doses of clomid because I didn't have any mature follicales the first scan, the second scan I did. We did the trigger shot and went back 1/13/17 for our first IUI. Two weeks later we got our BFP!! And last week at our first ultrasound we found out I'm having identical twins!! 💗so it is possible! I know it's different for everyone and sorry it's such a long post but I thought maybe it would help 😊 not trying to push religion in any way but I don't doubt at all that we wouldn't have been able to pay for it or get our end results without all the prayers so if it's ok with you I'd be happy to keep you in my prayers! We did IUI the first time back in July. I was hesitant about the process overall because of low percentages in general; however, it worked and we are expecting twins next month. We did Clomid and a trigger shot to time ovulation. Not sure if some of those factors alone would have helped but really glad we did the IUI.

I just got a BFP this week after my first IUI. My regular OB did it, not an RE, so that saved us about $1500. I was taking 150 mg of Clomid. I had an ultrasound on cd12 and IUI on cd15.

Our doc said likelihood on try #1 is not great but #2 or #3 is higher chance BC they know more info about how aggressive to be with meds. Also said after #4 the chances plateau.

Me and hubby considers iui with donor because he had a vasectomy and we didn't want to waste money. We also had to pay out of pocket. In the end we did ivf with ICIS and were able to use his sperm. We purchase a multicycle package and got pregnant the first try. So worth it!

I've done 6 IUI's and it all failed. My insurance covered up to 6 so we tried. I'm only 31 and my DH is 32. We have unknown infertility and have done every test possible to be sure. If you can't afford it, don't bother.

We are currently in the tww of our 3rd IUI with clomid and trigger shot. First two didn't work do we are hoping this one does. If not our doctor recommends moving onto IVF. Even under the best circumstances, they said there is only 10-20% of success. So if it's something that would stress you financially, I'm not sure I would go for it.

The success for IUI is roughly 20% per cycle, so it may not happen on the first try but it's possible!

We did 2 IUI's, both successful but unfortunately both ended in miscarriage.  We did 100mg clomid with just ovulation test monitoring and were successful both times.  Going for our 3rd round of IUI after almost a one year break.  Good Luck!
