Baby born with low blood sugar

I had my son on Friday February 10th, we got settled into the mother baby room they checked his sugars and took him away to the NICU. He has been on an IV since 4am Saturday and gets his blood tested every 3 hours. Does anyone else have any experience with something like this? He is still in the hospital and I got discharged yesterday and had to leave my baby boy there, one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.
