Breastmilk, Pumping, Nursing....overflow?
Ok so, I exclusively pump. (Latch issues blah blah) this is my third baby. I pumped with the other two but with the first, only for about a month. With my second I pumped for about 6 months but had really low supply so I supplemented with formula until I eventually dried up. With baby 3, I've done exclusive breastmilk because my supply has been great. I've got tons in storage for when I eventually stop pumping.
So my question for fellow moms who either exclusively pump or breastfeed, have you ever had days/ weeks where your breasts feel constantly full? My baby is NOT eating more than normal, I thought that might be it but he refuses. I pump every 3-4 hours (except at night I go 6-8 hours without) my supply is actually less than it was a month ago....I had an appendectomy which threw off my pumping routine which dropped my supply for a few days (thank god for frozen supply!) it has gone back to a normal range but not the excess it was before. I was getting around 42 oz a day and my baby was eating around 30-37oz a day. So I was making a lot of extra. Now I'm making just enough for his daily intake. With an extra 5 oz every other day or so.
I'm just confused as to why my breasts constantly feel full. I pump for about 15-20 minutes every time. They feel empty when I'm done. And then within an hour or so they feel full again. I cannot pump every hour. It's not possible with a toddler and baby and for my poor nipples.
Does anyone know why they're feeling this way or what I could do to stop it? As soon as they feel full they get SUPER tender to where it hurts just to hold my kids against them. Not to mention my nipple tenderness that makes me squirm any time something comes close to brushing against them. HELP?! Sorry this is so long. I felt like I needed to explain it all.
