Dogs?!

Did your male dogs calm down after you got them fixed? 
I have two dogs, a 10 month old and a 7 month old. Both are males. And they are extremely hyper. We weren't going to fix them because we didn't want to put them through the pain of surgery when they're inside dogs and never get out. But now that we are having a baby, they're really hyper and if it will help, we will get them fixed.

Typically it does calm them down. After a neuter, they are still their same selves, just not as "crazy". Sometimes intact males can be aggressive, the aggression calms down. Urinating all the time calms down, typically intact males urinate a lot to leave their scent to mark their territory, sometimes even in baby rooms (I've heard a lot of those from owners). If they're trying to get out all the time to find a female, that calms down a lot. If your intact males fight occasionally, that calms down a lot! I know my males were fighting all the time to show who was dominate, it stopped a ton once both of them got neutered.
Dogs can also get testicular cancer as well, which is why a prostate exam is recommended once or twice a year, depending on the dog. Usually we recommend a neuter for pets that aren't breeding so they have a lower risk of getting testicular cancer.
If anything, call your veterinarian or make an appointment about what they would recommend for your dogs.

Dogs will calm down with age, but if you wait to long it can actually make them worse so I would ask your vet what the recommended age is bc your pretty close to the recommended age to have the procedure done by.

Getting them fixed helps with aggression, not with them being hyper. It does make them gain weight though. Some dogs are just more active than others.. what breed are they? Look up their personality online!

Our dogs didn't have less energy from getting them fixed.. it calms down the hormones and sometimes the attitude that goes with those hormones. My dad wasn't going to fix one of his dogs either, until the dog started to get a bit aggressive towards kids. He was in the next week. In my opinion it's best to fix most animals.

If you aren't planning on breeding them it's a good idea to get them fixed regardless of if they're inside and never get out. Depending on size now is when you'd want to have it done(supposedly neutering too early can cause issues with larger breeds growth?). It will help with marking and aggression issues probably but not pure hyperactivity? If they're hyper you could take them for walks(walking is good for you and baby! :) ) or the dog park if they're fixed without worry to wear off energy. You can also do dog training sessions with them inside if you don't want to take them outside(get them to use their brains and reinforce obedience training! A flirt pole is great for playing and reinforcing the leave it and drop it commands and can be done inside if you have a smaller dog).  There might also be a doggy daycare in your area you could look into as a place they can go for a few hours to wear off energy! A tired dog is a good thing :)

My male was 3 when we had him fixed and he has calmed quite a bit no longer chews through couches (yes multiple) he was fixed when our female was spayed after a round of puppies.

Oh yes! They calmed down a lot. We waited until they were 2&3 simply because we were lazy and I didn't want to take time off work but since they were both males, they started fighting. They got territorial over food, toys, and even our attention. One day they got in a fight and when I went to stop it one of them turned around and put his mouth on me. They both had their balls chopped off that following week! Now they are 5&6 and we havnt had any problems since the neutering. They are Australian shepherds, so they are naturally energetic but they are so much more calm now.

I mean I have a rescue dog so he was already fixed due to policy but he is the second most hyper dog I've ever had. NOTHING makes him calm down. Even when we go to the vet it takes forever to sedate him. Oh and he has a pillow he humps a couple times a week so I don't think him being fixed did anything to him other than make him not have babies.
