OBGYN vs MIDWIFE

My bestfriend has had THE WORST experience with her babydoctor and   has switched drs FOUR times and shes only 10 weeks along. She said she will be looking at a midwife if the next one doesnt work out. My husband and I are ttc right now and   Are kinda off put by the string of bad luck when it comes to drs that my best friend and other women we know are having with them. Which has us also contemplating midwives for when we get pregnant. But honestly I dont know anything about that process. Whats the difference? Which is better? Pros and cons? Does the midwife do/know the same things a normal dr would?
