How old was your breastfed baby when he/she started sleeping longer stretches at night?

My son is almost 6 mo. old and we just started solids a few weeks ago. He's still waking up every 3-4 hours at night. I nurse him and he'll go back to sleep as soon as he's done. I want to try to wean him down to 1 (or none!) night feeding but don't want to starve him either 😕 Any advice mommas?

My ped advises that you could try soothing him back to sleep without feeding him because he may be waking out of habit not hunger. May work better for your partner to do this so baby doesn't smell food. If he can fall back to sleep without eating he may start sleeping longer. I've gotten this advice at 4 months+ and it worked with my oldest daughter!

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 my daughter is 15 months longest she will go when sleeping by herself is 45 minutes. When she is in bed with us the longest she will go is about 3 hours

It cycled... daughter slept great 2-4mos, terrible 4-6, good again.... even worse 8-10... getting a little better again at 10-12 mos.. 0-3 wake ups a night.

My 7 month old was like this for the first 6 months, and just recently went back to just 1 or 2 wake ups. The first I can sometimes prevent by dream feeding her (nursing without her waking) when I go to bed around 11 pm. The second is between 4 and 6 am, and she goes right back to sleep for a few more hours. I think for breastfed babies, it's more normal for them to feed at night for longer, even with adding solids...sometimes because they are too distracted during the day to nurse well, but there are lots of other reasons why. 
I just finished a good book called "Boobin' All Day, Boonin' All Night" and it has some really good suggestions for getting enough sleep and rest, even when your baby is night nursing. The author's blog, The Milk Meg, is also helpful.

At around 4/5 weeks she started sleeping about 5 hrs. Now at 12 weeks (3 months on the 23rd) she sleeps 9 hrs, every once in awhile 10.

I just let my lo decide when she was going to sleep through the night. She's not the best self soother and when she was waking in the middle of the night I had no choice but to feed her. I could hear her little belly rumbling. Once I started solids is when she stopped waking up for her middle of the night feeding.
