at what point do I bring up maternity leave to my boss?

I work for a small company. I only work with one other person, our boss is 3 hours away. I'm due in May & plan on starting my leave May 1st. I don't know when or if I'll be back because being military I have to wait for an opening in the daycare on base.. plus I'm not even sure I want to still work here as the refuse to give me more hours 🙄.. when should I bring up to my boss about the leave?? I planned on taking 2 months off but if the daycare doesn't have an opening till august I obviously won't be able to come back till then.

I would say something now that way it will give them time to try and find someone to replace you while you're out especially since you don't have a definite date on when you're going back

If your boss knows your pregnant, then I would bring up leave asap. As stated before, don't mention you aren't thrilled to come back, just stick with the dates you plan to leave and return.

You should bring it up because with a company that small, you are actually not entitled to FMLA so it's up to your boss if you even get leave or not.  The more notice you give and concern you show for the job, the more likely he/she is to work with you.

My boss knows I'm pregnant 🙈 he's just never brought up maternity leave.. only said he would work me till I can't work anymore.
