Doesn't matter when everyone else worries, if you're worried take a test as soon as it's possible to get accurate results.

I took a test 2 days ago it was negative, supposed to get my period today but didn't start. Took the second test this morning still negative. It's most accurate on the day of your missed period. But can be 99% accurate up to 3 days before your period. Most test let you test up to 6 days early but the accuracy goes down to 65%.

My cycle had been exactly 35 days for over 2 years. I knew at 2 days late that I needed to test. But it's different for everyone. I'd say the typical would be 3 days to a week.
