Breastfeeding?

Question

I keep having my boyfriends family tell me I won't be able to breastfeed because I'm 38 weeks and haven't been leaking and also my boobs didn't grow with pregnancy. Is there any truth to this? I really want to breastfeed and I'm upset that I might not be able to ☹️. My areolas are the only thing that changed, going from small and pink to brown and large. Please let me know if any of you not first timers were in a similar situation and able to breastfeed. Thanks!

Sorry, but I've never heard that! I think you'll be fine 😀 I never leaked during pregnancy and I'm going on 11 months breastfeeding.

Leaking or not and breast size has nothing to do with successful breastfeeding. Also not really anyone's business what size your breasts are during pregnancy and they don't need to be part of the conversation. Rather rude. Don't let them stress you out.

That's a 100% negative. They might just want to be able to feed the baby and if that's the case you can buy breastfeeding bottles and pump so you can share the experience but it's not cool to scare you like that for their comvinience. You don't have to leak to produce milk, a breastfeeding consultant will tell you. Definitely look into getting a consultant to help you out because with their advice you're not gonna get anywhere. Stay positive and open minded!

Not true. I did not have any leaking while pregnant and breastfed my son to 16 months.

That has nothing to do with u being able to breastfeed. Talk to a lactation consultant and don't stress. It can be difficult for some and easy for others. I had problems with my daughter after we got home from the hospital. It took days of crying and I almost gave up. I'm so glad I didn't because she finally latched on correctly and nursed for a year. The one thing I wouldn't let the hospital staff and I wouldn't use at home is a bottle. Because an infant is so small you can use a syringe to squeeze milk into your babies mouth. That way they don't give up on you because the bottle is easier to get milk from. I got that from my consultant. (Thank goodness I had her and they have a lot of programs to help)

Some moms milk doesn't even come in until after they have the baby. Everyone is different

No leaking for me and I had an awesome supply. It doesn't matter how big your boobs are either. That has no bearing on how much milk they're able to hold. I started drinking red raspberry leaf tea in my third trimester to prepare for labor and I think it helped my milk supply a lot. You can get it at target. Just be aware that it causes Braxton hicks, which is why you aren't supposed to drink it until the third trimester. If you really want to breastfeed, you'll be able to. Just don't give up! It can be challenging but it's so worth it!
