can't tell him what I want

This is my first relationship. I'm 17 and he's 20. He's really bad at sex and bad at intimacy and romance. We've almost bred dating a year and we haven't been out on a date. Everytime I tell him I want to go out on a date he yells at me and says that he doesn't have any money and that going out and buying this isn't what a relationship is about. He calls me materialistic when I ask him to take me out. I like staying home watching movies and cuddling but not all day everyday.
