tattoo aftercare?

Got my first tattoo yesterday, it's pretty big and I was so happy when it was done I think I didn't entirely listen to what the tattoo artist said.
He said something about washing it 2-3 hours after it was done and putting on some lotion.
Do I have to wash it now again (I just woke up it's 6:35am in Germany) or should I not touch it? I think I have to clean it but I'm not sure...

I wouldnt just out lotion, its essentially a wound, and needs more than that. Use A&D ointment

Start of with something like aquaphor for the first few days, when you shower make sure you are using soap and rubbing gently, do not soak it in the bathtub! After about 3 days switch to lotion.

No lotion! Wash with warm water and antibacterial soap for about 30 seconds, pat dry, then apply a LIGHT layer of A&D ointment. Just enough ointment to make it shiny. You will only apply lotion after at least 2 weeks. You will need to wash and reapply A&D ointment 2 to 3 times per day. Do not peel the tattoo when it starts to peel, just let it come off while washing.

Use non scented lotion and wash with mild soap. If it scabs (especially if there are areas of color) don't pick at it or scratch it!!!

For the first 3 days wash gently and use an antibiotic ointment or cream; I prefer the cream. After a few days, switch to lotion. You will know when it's time, because it will start to itch and dry out very quickly. Keep up the lotion for a few weeks until it no longer dries out and gets itchy.
DO NOT SCRATCH IT OR PICK AT THE SCAB.
Keep it out of direct sun for now, and for a few months.

i would wash it every 3 hours especially because it's your first and it's big. listen to your tattoo artist . and put lotion on it especially when it gets itchy ! no scratching lol
