Boyfriend or not..??

So, I've gone on a few dates with this guy and it's really going well. But I can't tell if we are official or just two singles dating and getting to know one another. How to I ask him? Do I come right out and bluntly ask or wait it out. I mentioned that I told my dad about him and labeled him as a friend which didn't seem to have the best effect.
