I doubt he'll change

We've been together for a year and long story short he had trust issues. Didn't like my friends, didn't want me going to clubs/parties with or without him, and didn't want me wearing certain things. I ended up asking for a break up and said "I need time because you don't trust me and that's not okay, our relationship isn't healthy" he cried and hurt himself (he promised me he would stop and did) and begged for me to come back, he said he was wrong that I was a hell of a girlfriend and that he's going to change and let me go out and stuff and trust me. But talking today he sent me these messages saying "I've just been worried" and it makes me think that he'll never change. I need advice, am I being too much?
