Ear infection in a 3 week old?

Is it possible that an infant could have an ear infection? My 3 week old son has been very fussy all of sudden and doesn't like to be laid down and only wants to be held. Also, I keep taking his temp and it's always around 98.5 -100 exactly. What's the norm? Then today I seen his right ear had yellow crusty stuff all around it, not a lot but just enough for a little guy his age. So I made an appt for tomorrow morning, but I'm impatient and just need a little peace of mind. Could this be ear infection? What could of caused this? And what could I do to keep him comfortable? 😢
