Lack of Girl Empowerment in High school
I'm 14, and at my high school barely any girls play sports. Rugby just started up and we might need to cut the 11&12 team because they don't have enough girls, and the 9&10s barely make the cut. Personally I do rugby in the fall and spring, and then swimming in the winter, but most girls my age just get the one gym credit they need and don't bother with any sports teams or extra fitness classes for the rest of highschool. I find this so sad. I asked some friends why they stopped being interested in sports and most of them said it was because it's not feminine. This mindset is telling girls that it's not okay to be strong, and that boys won't find you attractive if you work out for the purpose of feeling good, not to loose weight. Girls think that eating healthy is enough to be healthy, but especially at this lifestage we need to be active, and it's sad to think that our gender is stopping us from doing so.
