Depo Provera

I've decided to stop using the 3 month birth control injection. I should have gone inDecember for my renewal but decided after 4 years it was time to give my body a break. It's March now exactly 3 months since I was due another shot. No period as yet and it doesn't seem like it will voluntarily come either. I don't mind at all. Is it a bad thing to be off the shot and not have a period?  Do I need it since it's been gone for 4 years? What the worse that could happen if it doesn't start? Has anyone else experienced this?
