what they don't tell you
What they tell you is that having a baby is hard. What they tell you is your life is never going to be the same. What they don't tell you is the hardest parts about it all. They don't tell you that you need to get up every two to three hours. Maybe less then that because they are going through a growth spurt. They don't tell you that every cough and every sneeze has your heart stopping in your chest because you are worried something might happen to them, and you can't protect them. They don't tell you that breast feeding hurts the first 6 weeks. It hurts so bad that you are biting your lip to keep from screaming out in pain. Or that the pain of breast feeding may never go away so you have to switch to formula. Or that you might not produce enough milk to feed them. What they also don't tell you? Is that it is all worth it. Waking up every three hours to see their beautiful eyes staring up at you with trust and love for you in them while you feed them. Feeling their tiny fingers wrap around your fingers with the tiny strength they have. They don't tell you about the bond you feel when they are breastfeeding from you. Or when you give them a bottle and they stare at you as if to say "thank you mommy for feeding me." They don't tell you about how your heart swells with love for them when their tiny bodies are laying next to yours so they can feel protected while they sleep. they say that your life will never be the same which is true, but what they don't say to you is that your life will never be the same because they make it better. They make you want to continue on with your life. They give your life a meaning. Yes having a baby is hard but it's not meant to be easy. It's supposed to be difficult. Because as they grow so do you...
