With or without?

Question

I'm currently pregnant with my first child and tbh I don't want the epidural will someone that's had more than one kid and tried both tell me if it makes that big of a difference

I didn't have one with my first, I just had gas and air with half water birth half bed birth, I also had to have a cut made in my ho ha to help baby head out, I'm glad I didnt have epidural, and I'm pregnant with no #2 and hope to have a natural birth again! :) x

I tried without the epidural but the contractions were horrific, the actual squeezing hurt but was tolerable but each contraction felt like I was being set on fire, in was screaming and shaking uncontrollably. The epidural helped me have a peaceful birth. I've had 2 epidurals with my 2 vaginal births with zero issues. Try without it, but don't be scared if you need it. It was significantly easier than the iv in my opinion. I had them give be a low dose of the meds so I could still kind of feel my legs and I felt the contractions and pushing, it just wasn't painful.

I had an epidural with my first and no pain medication with my second. Second time around was soooo much easier and faster. I will say that i migh have ended up with an emergency c section if i hadn't gotten the epidural. They had me on pitocin which was incredibly intense with back labor and i was stuck at 4cm for 12 hours before i got the epidural and i dilated to 10 within minutes because i got a moment to relax. However it made it very hard for me to push and it took another 2 hours before baby was born. With my second, it was all natural and i could feel everything but it was only 4.5 hours of labor and 5 mins of pushing

I've had both. There is a HUGE difference pain wise. My natural one went faster but that could also be because it was my third birth as my second birth with an epidural was faster than my first birth with an epidural. Either way I couldn't get out of bed for a couple hours after birth. With the epidurals they won't let you and your legs feel weak when they do. After my natural birth I was shaking so bad from the adrenaline drop that I still needed help and to take a shower I needed to sit on the tub floor and use the shower head to wash up because my legs were shaking so bad. Healing was similar with all besides I didn't tear with my natural birth. Again, hard to say if it was from going natural or from it being my third birth because I tore the worst with my first, had a couple stitches with my second and none with my third.

This baby I will be doing an epidural again but mostly for the fact that we know our baby has health problems that will be emotionally draining that I don't want to have as much pain before she comes because it's painful after birth regardless and emotionally will be painful with this one that I'd like to delay the pain as much as possible.

I'm in the delivery room now and so glad I had the epidural, the contractions hit so much faster than I was prepared for and I had no breathing time in between. It let me get some sleep
