How do you feel about the military allowing hijabs, turbans, beards and dreadlocks?

So the military recently started allowing people to wear hijabs, beards, turbans and dreadlocks. I was talking to a friend who is active duty, and he said it is causing a lot of controversy amongst his fellow soldiers.  I think it's great the military is trying to be more inclusive. The new guidelines state it can't interfere with their uniform-in other words, their gas masks and helmets have to be able to fit over it. So I'm not sure how it's controversial? Thoughts?
