What kind of diapers do you use?

Question

Looking for some real world advice on cloth diapers. 
Why do you use them?
How do you wash and care for them?
How many did you need a day roughly for your newborn to, let's say 3 months?
What brands do you use?

Please keep in mind as well that I am in Canada as well so brands may differ.

I'm from Australia, and we though of using cloth nappies. Normal nappies just grew on us so we've just been using them, 10 months and continuing on. We have heaps of cloth nappies, we just use them as rags or spit towels. 😃

-we have a mix of GroVia, bumgenius, and Imagine (all pocket diapers)- GroVia is our favorite though they are a little pricier. We have some "organic" bumgenius but they have a weird texture.
-We plan to use them to keep costs down, because it's significantly better for the environment, and because I'm a SAHM with a washer and dryer and feel that there's no excuse to do otherwise.
-I washed them 2 times with "free and clear" detergent once I had them all and I did put them in the dryer (some people don't do that). We have a drying rack for air drying that we use now though. We were gifted a Spray Pal that attaches to our toilet and makes poo diapers a lot more manageable
-we only bought 3 newborn sized cloth diapers which we regret. We didn't think our baby would really need newborn size but she is still a tiny girl at 2 months so she hasn't grown into the "one size" diapers. We are "supplementing" with disposables until she grows into the others 🙁 I would try to have at least 12 for each day and that's if you plan to wash them daily
-We have an eco sprout brand coconut oil rash cream that we use just in case and that helped with those tar-y newborn poos. It just made it easier to clean up on the chance she was in a cloth diaper.

We have Lil Helpers cloth diapers! They seem great so far. I'd check out the website for answers to all your questions, because they have lots of good info. on there.

Bonus: they're Canadian and you can order a cheap starter pack from Costco (online) too! I got a Costco pack and supplemented with some extra diapers from Lil Helpers' website. They have excellent customer service too.

I'm in Australia. I got prefolds and covers for the newborn stage with my son, sadly we had so much going on we didn't use them much. At 2 months we went into one size AI2 (all in two nappies) and pocket nappies and occasionally used flats. We used them until I got pregnant with my second and have been using disposables because I couldn't handle the poo with morning sickness and daddy refused to. I think they're worth the effort and you don't need to go fancy. I'm thinking about buying more terry flats when I go back to cloth as they're so hardy and will last years. Planning on trying to use cloth from birth this time but will have disposables incase we end up in hospital for a week again and to use when out or really tired.

We're using Alva's pocket diapers right now but we need better inserts than what they come with so we're using luvs at night when she sleeps longer.
Expect a newborn to use 12-15 a day and have extras, too. Because they will surprise you with a fountain of poo the moment you put the fresh diaper under them.

Both of my kids are and were luvs babies parents choice gave them both bad rashes we tried pampers with out daughter but she had rashes with them too huggies were ok but they were a bit big she was a tiny baby and even the 0 was big
