I need advice!!!

So me and this guy have been talking for a while now and i asked him what we are, and he daid were between really good friends and dating but it hasent moved from there for a month now. So today i asked him if we are like a thing and he said he isnt over his ex and to give him time so i am and then he comes back with we will be together oneday.... what should i do

Edit: The ex ik wont come back and he isnt into anyone else but me he even told his bestfriend that...so i relly dont know
