Contractions?

Question

How do I know if my contractions are real? Yes I know they should be painful but do they start out painful ? Or how does it feel when they start out ? Will your waterbreak first ? What are some signs that contractions are gonna start happening ? Does it start and become strong soon after ? I'm 39 & 4

Your water won't break first.  I was having contractions and didn't really even know it. I was just having periods where I was feeling uncomfortable but I was 38/39 weeks pregnant.  I arrived for my elective induction and when I got hooked up they were like oh yea your starting  have contractions in your own - didn't change the course of things and they weren't consistent. If I wanted to wait I could have gone into labor on my own likely within the next several days but didn't want to do that.

Timing them, they won't start out the bad but over time will get worse. Most don't have their water break before contractions. For me with my last two it didn't break till time to push.  Worth my first it was broke by the dr. Unless you need to have it broke to help labor progress I recommend letting it break on its own if it doesn't you can get it top break with pushing.
