Losing yourself in motherhood BS

Denise

I haven't even had the baby yet and people are already trying to tell me not to 'lose myself' in motherhood. There are also terribly superficial articles about this all over facebook and pinterest. I'm sorry (not sorry) if I don't feel like I need to get a pedicure, work 12 hours a day, or make time to pretend like I'm 21 drinking at bars in order to feel validated in my existence.

Being a mother feels like a new calling, albeit an all-consuming calling, but I don't feel like there's anything wrong with dedicating yourself to your new baby and giving up some of the things you used to do! Can't people just let mothers embrace the changes without accusing them of being lost?! Maybe if our society actually valued mothers and childcare more, this wouldn't even be 'one of those things that people say'.

LOVE this article about all of it:
