eating the placenta ?

Hi has anyone done anything with thier placenta after birth I'm thinking of doing capsules or the fruit smoothies with them but my partner wanted to know if he could drink or take them also ? Has anyone's partner done that xx

Hi! I'm a student midwife and I encapsulate placentas for my clients who want them done.
Your partner can absolutely consume your placenta with you, but it's kind of a waste. The idea is that the hormones and nutrients that went into creating the placenta should go back into YOUR body to help you heal from the birth, both physically and emotionally. While it won't hurt your partner to consume the placenta, it probably won't help him.
I definitely recommend getting the placenta encapsulated (a process of drying, grinding then putting into capsules). I've never had a client try the smoothie and I imagine it would be hard to consume, but go for it if that's what you want!

The placenta is a filter that catches all the things that shouldn't be going to your baby. There are no proven benefits to eating it. I used to be really in to the idea until I started researching it, and now the idea just seems gross.
