Get second opinion?

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 2.5 years and began seeing a fertility specialist last August. We just went through our 3rd round of failed IUI and the doctor wants to try IVF next, but hasn't found any reason why we're not getting pregnant (calling it "unexplained infertility"). Should I seek a second opinion before trying IVF? Has anyone else done this?

I also had unexplained infertility for awhile until I started having cyst after cyst. Then I had a laparoscopy and he found stage 2 Endometriosis and a few fibroids. All were removed and he put me on Follistem, which is like a more intense version of clomid since it's an injection and goes straight to your blood stream. My Dr called it "rocket fuel" lol. It's basically between clomid and the IVF. So it's the injectables followed by an IUI. But it worked for us and was allot cheaper than IVF.

Jenni, my husband and I were in a situation similar to yours. We were seeing one doctor who we tried to do an IUI cycle with (had to be cancelled due to overstimulation ) but he told us our only option was IVF. We decided to seek a second opinion with another specialist. Honestly, it's so much money and there are so many emotions on the line it doesn't hurt to seek another doctor's advice. They could have a different opinion or are willing to try something different. Worst case scenario, they tell you the same thing and you can go back to your old doctor. At least you'll have the peace of mind knowing you asked someone else.

May I ask your age? Or I guess I should say, may I ask if age is a factor? My husband and I also started treating last august, 4 failed IUIs (some were cancelled cycles). Currently on day 2 of my TWW for cycle 5. If this doesn't take were going to IVF. I'm 38, so diminished ovarian reserve is our issue. It's so frustrating, I know. If I was younger and still in this position I'd give IVF one try, but after that I think I'd be wondering about a 2nd opinion too.
