Extremely scared!

I am currently 39 weeks pregnant. I've had my share of complications and issues which have led to my ob wanting to induce me Sunday. I had a cervical exam when I was 33 weeks during which I was 50% effaced. I had another after being admitted to the hospital at 36 weeks and was still 50% effaced. I was checked yesterday and my ob informed me I'm still closed and my cervix is not ripe and that when he induces me, if there is still no change I will end up with a csection. I've had 2 previous vaginals. How is the recovery with a csection compared to a vaginal? Does it hurt to have a csection done?
