If you're worried, you can always use condoms for the first month to make sure you're good to go. (^_^) Sometimes that can give you some peace of mind!
birth control, the pill
I just started taking the pill but the lady from the chemist spoke broken English so i have no idea what she was saying lol. 
I read somewhere that you need to start taking the pill within 5 days of your next period for it to prevent pregnancy. I took the first pill on the 14th but my period isn't due until the 22nd which is 8 days from when I first took it.
Will I still be protected? I know it doesn't work until after a week :)
Also, will it change the date I get my period from now in?

I just started taking the pill too. And my pill wants u to either take the pill the first day or ur period of the Sunday after. My doctor said I can chose any day tho LOL anyways. U will be fine. Protected after seven days yes! As for ur period - I'm not sure because I haven't had mine yet either. But I think ur period that was supposed to come naturally won't come. When ur done with active pills and are taking the sugar pills it will come but yah! We shall both see lol
