coughing?

So I'm concerned and worried i has some one tell me i can have the baby in danger due to the fact I been sick and coughing for over 4 weeks. I'm have a cold for awhile and I haven't stopped coughing I tried different medicines and nothing immjust worried that I'm harming the baby and if it's tru what my friend said about coughing for so long can make my water break early and lose the baby. Can anyone tell me how severe is this
