Getting out of the Friendzone

Ever since a young age, I've refused to allow myself to believe in love because I was guarding myself from giving someone the chance to break my heart. But as they say "falling in love is unstoppable" and I've fallen in love with my best friend of over 10 years. And as all of you whom have experienced a crush on a best friend understand, there's a major risk in dating your best friend; ruining the friendship when you breakup. My issue is exactly that! He's literally the "perfect" guy and I can't risk not having him in my life, but I also want to be more than friends. Any advice or personal stories of experience to help me out? Thank you!
