Is having a non hormonal iud better than birth control pills in your opinion? Does it make your period personally heavier ,lighter, or the same? How did you react to it during the first week or month? Tell me all about yours. I'm about to get one and I'm scared from all the horror stories I'm reading

The copper IUD makes ur periods heavier and can cause period pains too! I have the hormonal IUD and it's amazing I love it so far it also stoos ur periods

Hey I just got my iud inserted today and I'm so glad I did. I was so worried because I read all the horror stories too. But the insertion wasn't bad at all just a tiny bit of cramping during the procedure that lasted like 5-8 minutes. I've had some bleeding but not much and very minimal cramping afterwards

My doctor told me not to read the horror stories lol. I waited yik after and I'm glad I did! I love it and honestly don't know how those things happen to som people. I think it's just not following instructions and people touching the strings too much maybe. You should be fine as long as you wait a week to have sex, aren't grabbing at the string and if they need to be cut, go back and get them cut. I've had absolutely no issues. My bf can feel it even though when I told my doctor and she cut them she said he definitely won't be able to and just thought he could since he knew something was in there, but he definitely can so we still use condoms cuz he can't feel it with one on.

I love in the fact that there are no hormones because I was having crazy symptoms from the pill. I will warn you there can be bad cramps but for me it's totally worth it, ibuprofen and a heating pad or hot bath usually fixes it :)

It's way better for me i hate hormones and how they made me feel. My period was heavier but my periods were already heavy and super painful before it. It's supposed to my your period heavier and your cramps worse. So the first almost 6 months everyone I was on my period for like 3 days o felt like I was dying. I couldn't even walk sometimes much less poop. But now it's wayyyyyy better I'm glad I waited it out.

Omg I'm so in love with mine! I scared myself reading all the horror stories online but you have to remember everyone is different. I got back on a normal cycle almost immediately. The first 2 days of my period are the worst but I don't bleed through more than a regular tampon and the pain isn't any worse than it was when I wasn't on hormonal bc (when I had the implanon implant they stopped for 2 years). I feel so much better not having any hormones (I lost 20 pounds after going off hormones) and I like knowing my body is doing what it's supposed to do naturally and that I'm protected up to 12 years! Overall the initial discomfort of the insertion procedure is soooooo worth it. I highly recommend it to everyone I talk to about it.

I think non-hormonal methods are way better. I loved mine. Yes to begin with my periods were heavier and more painful but that settled after 3 months. Insertion wasn't pleasant the first time as I hadn't had any children but second time after my daughter I didn't feel a thing

I haven't tried any other bc and I've only had the copper iud for about five months but I love it. I've had a normal and healthy body all 25 yrs of my life so I didn't want to mess with hormonal bc. Plus the copper iud lasts much longer. I was terrified when I went to get it inserted because of the horror stories. I haven't had children but it was surprisingly painless. Definitely had some cramping that insertion day but did not bother me. My periods have been regular since. My flow is normally heavy so I was worried it'd get heavier but it has been the same, possibly slightly lighter. Cramps are the same, mild and bearable. Definitely should continue using condoms but I haven't a few times with my partner and everything has been fine so far. He can sometimes feel the strings but he says they do not bother him. No complaints here!

I had no period with the mirena for fours years and before then my period were extremely light and short with minimal cramping.

About a month ago I switched to copper from hormones.  I've finally gotten my period back and so far it's the same as it was before maybe a little heavier. It may be because it's my first period after hormones or I might be lucky. 🍀

Personally I hate mine. It's uncomfortable, my periods are weird, and cramps are outrageous. I'm on the pill to regulate my cycle but it hasn't been working. I think my body might hate birth control
