Help please!!!!

Ok ladies...I need opinions. I'm white but want to get box braids...reason being...I went for a hair trim and had my hair butchared. I cant do anything with it except put a million clips in it to try and hide it. I want to get the braids so my hair can grow out without me having to deal with it...the braids would be black like my hair. Ppl tell me it's "trashy" or that "im trying too hard"....? Idk what that one means...but just want honest opinions. On how it would look...not how its "offensive" or anything like that. Thanks 😊
