birth control?

I'm less than a month out from being 18 and I had already decided that once I turned 18 I would go to the lady doctor to make sure things were okay and then go on birth control but one day my mom came into my room and just said hey you're going on birth control almost like I had no choice. She even told me today she's doing it for her sanity when I'm not even having sex nor plan to any time soon. I got mad at her because I feel so embarrassed about it and I hate it. Now I'm left feeling bad and hating myself. Is there anyone out there that ever felt the same? How do I over come this? My mother doesn't communicate well with these subjects therefore I never have either.
