self harm scars + police??

Are you able to become a police officer if you have previous depression + anxiety dilemmas and also self harm scars? I have scars from when I was 14-16 and just wondering if that restricts me...

Talk to the police department. I know you can join the military if your doctor can clear it. But you have to be off the depression meds for like a year and the doctor has to verify that you are ok without them

My husband works in the law enforcement field. He says that if you can cover them up and pass a psych eval and a polygraph than you will be good to go! I say give it a try!!

They will ask you if you have a mental health issue background. If you lie and they found out it's automatic termination. (My cousin is a graduate of the FBI academy.)

I think it all depends on the department.  Where I live only certain departments require their new hirees to undergo a psych test.. your past may raise some red flags, but no one is perfect. You will never know unless you try!

I know they will ask if you have a history of mental illness, do interviews and a polygraph. As for accepting someone with those issues, I THINK you have to be cleared by a doctor. It could be different in different places, however, so I'd check with the department you plan on applying at.
