GENDER IDENTITY: What is the patriarchy?

Newsflash, girl: we live in a patriarchy. Our society is and has always been unequal. Women, gender-nonconforming folks, and people of color are systematically disadvantaged, while white cis men tend to rise to the top.

This inequality is reinforced every day and is super obvious when you look at under-representation in government, decision-making positions, and business leadership. Male violence against women is also a key feature of patriarchy.

Maybe its underrepresented because girls are being taught by the media that beauty is everything.

A lot of people used to say girls are dumb. But now, a lot of people think, "Oh, that was a long time ago, people don't think like that anymore." But they're wrong. People still do think like that. Women still have to work three times as hard as a man at the same job for them to earn the same amount of money. In a business setting, women are silenced and most men are surprised at a woman even being there. When I walk into a store, someone behind the counter immediately watches my every move. I guess they expect me to try and steal something just because I'm black. I hate the phrase African American. Anyone who has dark skin (in America), someone will immediately identify then as African American. Not everyone, but someone. I'm not from Africa. I'm from the Caribbean. I'm not from Jamaica. I'm from Monttserat. These assumptions are holding the world back. In school, we mostly learn about white men. During black history month, we don't have many history lessons. In school, we learned that Christopher Columbus discovered America. He didn't discover America. He found the Bahamas, and people were already living there. I've learned that the people with power, or who think they have power in our world have little respect for others. Our teachers tell us to have respect for others, but our teachers bully other teachers. My fourth grade teacher walked into the classroom one day, crying. I think the problem in our world is that people with power, and who are leaders have little respect for those who have less than them, and think that they're better than everyone else. Some just think it's all a game. This doesn't go for everyone, but it needs to be realized, and someone needs to change this. There's still hope for the future.

I just learned a new term today: demigirl! In college I began identifying with the blanket term “genderqueer” but always felt more agender than anything. As time went on, and it is entirely possible that the reasoning behind it was that I was returned from a liberal arts college to the depths of gendered society, I started to feel slightly more associated with feeling like a woman. I am now married to a man and I am pansexual (idk if I like that term; I use “bi” when talking to people most of the time because it’s easier for them to understand, not sure if there’s a more appropriate term that fits other than “pansexual”— I am attracted to people of any and all [or lack of] genders). 
Anyway, sexuality and gender are obviously separate.
BUT. I do still connect with being a girl, and I’m fine with the world perceiving me that way, but I also definitely feel partially agender.
The term to fit I think I finally found: demigirl! Recommend checking it out if you’re still as confused as I am. Also “demigender”. There are so many terms out there. You can choose any, all, or none. And of course, whatever pronouns you like. But they can be helpful tools to kind of find yourself. I still feel like I fluctuate a bit and I don’t really identify with the idea of gender, but I KNOW I never truly feel like a man. 
I do know that most of the time, I do feel at least a little bit like a woman. I am AFAB btw, but terms like demigirl, demiboy, demigender have no bearing on your A(x)AB.
Just something I learned today that I thought I might share, maybe relate to someone.

Exactly. My engineering class has 6 girls to like 20 or 25 guys in it, and in another engineering class in my school, there are no girls. This doesn’t include all the guys (or the teacher, thank god) in my class, but I would say that most of the guys in my class try to completely take charge of any group project that I’m in with them, as though I wouldn’t be smart enough or capable enough to do an equal amount of work as them. It’s incredibly frustrating sometimes, and some of the stories I hear from women who either are or were in engineering as a profession are so sad to me because nothing should be like this, and yet it is. It needs to change.
