Here's an easy way to break it down: sex is what was assigned to you at birth, based on genitalia.
Gender identity is what's in a person's head––do they feel like a girl, or a boy, or somewhere in between?
Orientation is who you're attracted to.
There's lots of nuance in between (and everyone is a special snowflake in their own way) but knowing the difference between the three will help you understand the alphabet soup of the LGBTQ community.
