Photographer present at birth?

Question

Hey all,
So this will be my first and only child (due to fertility problems and having hyperemesis) and I really feel like I want a photographer just in the corner of the room taking some nice natural birthing photos of me giving birth. (I would like a water birth)

My husband is unsure and I don't know if the hospital will allow it yet anyway.
But I'm really feeling it, no doubt my husband will faint (he has to lay down when I get a blood test 😂) so if I don't have a photographer I won't get any photos.

And I'd love to see it first come out and my labour faves and just our natural reactions so such a hard and wonderful experience.

Do you think that it's strange?
Would you have one? 
Have you had one? If so could I see some photos please.

I'm not having one myself but I think it's a great idea, water births especially lend themselves to some beautiful photos. I think a lot of people hear 'birth photographer' and picture some stranger getting right up in your business during the action and going full throttle with the graphic crotch shots. As you said, it's more about capturing the experience and the reactions so you can look back on those memories and share them with your child in the future. If you think there's any chance you might regret not having them done then I'd go for it if your hospital allows it.

I feel like birth is over romanticized. No way would i pay that much money to have pictured of me looking like total crap, and in pain. My husband recorded it and I still have only watched it once because i was slightly curious. Its not like i would be displaying the pictures anywhere. So why pay so much for that?

My midwives say ghsg for every extra person in the room add one hour to your labor. Even if you're planning to not say a word to him, you'll know he's there, and that extra distraction will prolong the birth 😝 it may be doable but keep it in mind!

We had a photographer there for the birth of our first child because she was expected not to live for more than a few minutes.  Our daughter lived for an hour and those pictures that the photographer captured are priceless!! 💜

My boyfriends brother is a photographer so we were gonna have him do this!

Do it! It all flys by so fast and your exhausted so struggle to remember. Pictures are forever and help you to remember it all. My husband has videos of me after I have birth and I have no memory of what I had said and was doing. Was a very strange thing to watch them all. You won't regret it
