What do you call them?

What do you call your in laws? I always feel so awkward calling them by their names but then I feel ever more awkward calling them mom or dad!

I call my in laws by their names. The only mom and dad I've ever had, or will ever have, are the ones who raised me.

First names. I'd feel strange calling them mom and dad because they're my DH parents not mine. DH calls my parents by their names and nobody is offended.

I call my husband's mom "mom." He just calls my parents "Mr. and Mrs. _____." That's because we lived near his mom for several years and I had the chance to get to know her well. We moved 2 years ago and are a little closer to my parents (7 hours away as opposed to 14 before). So, I'm hoping my husband has a chance to get closer to them and starts calling them "mom and dad."

Been with my husband since I was 20. I'm now 28, married 3 years and I still call my MIL "Miss" (she was single when I met her). I call her husband "Mr". His dad remarried as well and I call his wife by her first name, no Miss or Mrs. and I don't think I call his dad anything. I avoid saying his name because I don't know what I should use. Once our son is born I will start calling them all by their preferred grandparent name.

My boyfriend's mother calls me her daughter-in-law since I've been with her son so long, but I just call her Don - short for Donetta 😂 and his stepdad I call by his name.

I'm Chinese, I call my in laws mom and dad. A lot of Asians call their in laws that-- I think culture plays a part in it too.

I usually call my partner's parents "you" just to avoid it, or when calling them over I use their names, but then when I'm talking to R about how much I love spending time with his siblings and how it's weird to me because they aren't my brothers or sisters or his mom isn't mine(my household is catty af after four hours of exposure) he'll be like "THEY'D BETTER BE".

So I'm getting mixed signals??? It's probably safe to use their names when talking directly to them and whatever is comfortable when talking about them. I'll use them interchangeably when texting him.

Like "should I tell mom we'll be by the house at 2 pm", but that only works because my mom basically doesn't exist in our relationship.
