Does this seem like a suicide attempt?

A quick insight, he is bi polar and schitzoeffective. Currently jailed with arson charges due to burning is apartment down in a maniac episode (he thought demons were trying to kill him) and crashing his car on the freeway in a suspected suicide attempt. Does this seem like another attempt to you or just 51/50 behavior?

My mother is schizophrenic and has done many odd things including telling 13 yr old me that she had to die for her sins for jesus and a couple years later she jumped on the neighbors car and put her in a headlock and dragged her down the street. I honestly hope this boy gets the help he deserves. But it seems it was definitely something done during an episode 😕

My grandmother had chronic schizophrenia. She was also diabetic and completely insulin dependent, so any drop in blood sugar could bring on an episode. I never knew this until she had a bad episode due to a UTI and she wandered her neighborhood completely lost for hours. Luckily, neighbors found her and got her home. After that, she came to live with us for the remainder of her life. She did have several other episodes while living with us. She was moved into my room and I remember waking up a few times and she was out of bed, standing in the corner talking to herself. Other times, she'd talked to me about myself as a baby, as if she were back in time telling a stranger about her infant granddaughter. It broke my heart. I hope this mother keeps the answers she needs to help her son.

My uncle is bipolar and schizoaffective. I am his power of attorney so I used to get calls every 6 months to sign paperwork to commit him. He cycled in and out of the psych facility. He'd take his meds and feel better. He'd think he was cured so he'd stop taking them. He'd have an episode and end up right back in the facility. He likes to run in the middle of road naked so they'll put him on suicide precautions until I come and bitch and moan to get him off those.  I don't think your friend was suicidal. He was just having an episode.

He was having an episode, so it wasn't an attempted suicide. He does, however, need more treatment for his mental illness. I hope everything works out for him and his family.

He probably did it during an episode thinking it would make it stop. My uncle is schizophrenic and he sees faces on his hands and one year at thanksgiving he punched the table over and over until he broke all his fingers because he thought it'd make the faces go away. I doubt swallowing a spoon was a suicide attempt

It's probably a result of one of his episodes. My uncle is schizophrenic, he has multiple daily OCD type rituals which require him to walk let's say from Norwalk to down town Long Beach, because he believes it'd save my aunts life (while she was alive) now it's become ritualistic to sit and stare at the wall outside in the sun for HOURS! He will come back inside with 3rd degree sunburn on his head, so bad he literally is blistering from these walls and "time outs" outside. It's so sad, unless the family puts him in a home, the jails will never EVER take care of him. My uncle survived luckily, but jails Should not house schizophrenic people, they should be in a mental institution where there are people trained to deal with that kind of behavior.

So he burned the apartment down because he thought demons were trying to kill him and you or someone thinks that this is a suicide attempt? 
Unless he was TRYING to die (not trying to kill demons), it's not a suicide attempt. It's a psychotic episode or something, but it's not a suicide attempt and they wouldn't admit him for such.
