Early gender reveal or baby shower ?

My SO and I decided that he will know the babies sex and I will wait. The problem is we want a gender reveal (sex reveal better worded) but he says it's not a good idea because everyone will want to bring a "neutral" gift and it'll just be complicated. He said maybe we should do a private "sex reveal" and then have a baby shower. I really wanted to find out during the gender reveal with everyone but I'm curious as to what ideas you beautiful gals may have?

We did a gender reveal but made it like a BBQ. No one brought gifts or anything and it was just our close friends and family. We just cooked out and hung out with everyone.  Once we had our shower that's when people brought gifts, we didn't have anyone bring anything to the reveal.

I heard of a shower where everyone knew the sex except for mom. Everyone brought their gifts in a gender neutral bag. And mom didn't find out until she started opening them.

We are doing a gender reveal with close family and a few friends and then having a baby shower about 10 weeks later. I'm not expecting gifts for the gender reveal.

I've been to a few gender reveals & it was only close friends & family but nobody brought gifts. They still had a shower & that's when people purchased gifts.
